Taiwan Strikes Colors at DC Embassy
In an embarrassment that continues to this day, the free Republic of China (Taiwan) officially lost the diplomatic recognition of the United States at the end of 1978. It's nemesis, the People's Republic of (Red) China had gained admission to the U.N. in 1971, and began a lobbying campaign extending to this day to marginalize the free and successful republic as a mere "renegade province". The sad part of the tale has been America's willingness to play along.
