Dominion Day (Canada)

With the passage of the British North American Act on July 1, 1867, Canada became a self-governing dominion. Prior to the Act, it had simply been another far-flung colony of the Empire.

Today our neighbor is still a member of the British Commonwealth of Nations, whose titular head is the Queen of England. The actual executive power in Canada is held by its Prime Minister.

Freedom Day

Many nations mark their freedom in the month of July, giving rise to this unofficial holiday. Could it be coincidence, or because of the leadership of that first truly free nation, the United States of America, whose birthday occurs on the 4th?
