History's Happenings for November 22

JFK Assassinated! LBJ President
1963

President John F. Kennedy was assassinated on November 22, 1963 in Dallas, Texas, purportedly by one Lee Harvey Oswald firing a rifle at Kennedy's motorcade from a nearby building. Kennedy was pronounced dead shortly after the shooting at nearby Parkland Hospital. Vice President Lyndon Johnson succeeded to the presidency, taking the oath of office on Air Force One at Love Field outside of Dallas.

Governor John Connally of Texas was also injured by the same shots, and Oswald himself was murdered two days later by Dallas nightclub owner Jack Ruby while in police custody.

Kennedy's was the fourth (and hopefully the last) assassination of a U. S. President, after those of Lincoln, Garfield and McKinley.
