U. of Chicago Wins First College Basketball Game
1896

On this day in 1896, University of Iowa physical education instructor H. J. Kallenberg and University of Chicago athletic director Amos Alonzo Stagg met in Iowa City to attempt the first ever intercollegiate game of basketball.

Five players played on each team, and Chicago won, 15-12.
