Jolson Sings In First "Talkie"
1927

Well-known vaudeville song and dance man Al Jolson set movie-making history on October 6, 1927, when The Jazz Man premiered in New York City. Produced by Warner Brothers' new company, Vitaphone Pictures, the movie was the first significant film to feature synchronized recorded sound.

While most of the action was still silent, Jolson's songs, all familiar today, rolled out from the recorded soundtrack.

By 1930, sound had become standard film fare.
