Parliament Passes Quartering Act
Following only two days after the infamous Stamp Act of 1765, the Quartering Act required citizens to provide room and board for British soldiers stationed in the Colonies. The combination of the two Acts lit the fuse to American independence eleven years later. The Quartering Act, and the imposition it placed on citizens' fundamental rights, led to the inclusion of the Third Amendment in our Bill of Rights, forbidding the quartering of troops in private homes in peacetime.
