"Silent Night" Written In 3 Hours
When he discovered his organ had broken down on the afternoon of Christmas Eve, 1818, Austrian parish priest Josef Mohr sat down and wrote out the words to a new Christmas hymn. Then he visited his organist, Franz Grüber at his home, and together they set "Silent Night" to music. Accompanied by a guitar, they performed it for the first time that evening at Christmas Eve Mass.
